5 Senses

It's been a busy week here and the children are enjoying the start of our major unit on The 5 Senses.  I have decided to break the unit up over 5 weeks so we can thoroughly explore each of the senses.

This week, we explored the sense of touch.  We explored play dough, fingerpainted and painted with puffy paint.  I love the texture of puffy paint when it is dry!  It is so incredibly easy to make... mix equal parts white glue and shaving cream.  It does take several days to dry.

Check out my website for emergent readers and a lapbook.  We created a touch booklet - the printout for this is in the 5 senses lapbook on my website if you want a copy.  We used a cotton ball for soft, sandpaper for rough, bubble wrap for bumpy, a sparkly pipecleaner for prickly, and tin foil for smooth.

You Tube has some great videos available to enhance this unit.  I know that You Tube is blocked for some schools, but you can save the video's to your hard drive by copy/pasting the url of the video at Save Media - .

Barney's 5 Senses Song

Hi-5 Senses

I Have 10 Fingers
I have ten little fingers, and they all belong to me
I can make them do things, would you like to see?
I can shut them tight
I can open them wide
I can put them together
I can make them hide
I can make them fly high
I can make them fly low
I can fold them like this and hold them just so.

  1. Ruth where would we find the lapbook on your site. I looked but have had no luck. God Bless. Mrs. Valerie

    1. Click on the Printables button on the left side and you will see a link to lapbooks - the emergent reader link is there also.
